My name is Kylie Spinello and I am going to be a senior at Temple University this upcoming year. I am the President of the Zeta Beta Chapter of Temple, and previously served as the Secretary for the past two years. I am currently a double major in Classics with a concentration in Classical Languages and Literature as well as an Anthropology major. This gives me an appreciation for both the languages and the histories of ancient Greece and Rome.
Why Kylie wants to be your Megale Prytanis:
I would like to run for the position of the National President. I was recently elected President of my local chapter of Eta Sigma Phi at Temple University, where I hope to spread the welcome feeling of the department to any incoming and current students while also advocating the opportunities and advantages of Eta Sigma Phi, and through the national level my outreach could extend further. Through this opportunity I would love to work with the other chapters around the country to ensure they have the proper tools to engage their own students, or have discussions on how to further extend Eta Sigma Phi into the college community.
In my prior role as secretary within my local chapter, I was responsible for a vast majority of all communications and meeting minutes. A chance to be on the national board would allow for many opportunities to increase communications between chapters and try to encourage Eta Sigma Phi to do more within their local chapters and encourage others to join. When I first began college, I didn’t have much of a concrete plan ahead of me. I started off in a different major, and took a Latin class for fun to fulfill my language requirement. It was something that I wished my high school had offered, and here was a chance to try something new. By the end of the semester, I had fallen in love with Latin and gotten to know most people and professors within the Classics department. By the end of the year I had declared a minor, and by the end of my sophomore year decided to add Classics as my primary major. Having spent three years in a department that I stumbled upon by pure chance, I have made connections with both peers and professionals that have had a positive influence on me both professionally and personally . The events held in the Classics department and hosted by Eta Sigma Phi gave me a place to relax and enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded people. It was like my second home and family. I would love to be able to spread the message of Eta Sigma Phi beyond just the amazing histories we focus on. The Classics and Eta Sigma Phi have given me so many opportunities and advantages going forward, and I would love to help others in the same way.
