Emerita Chair of the Board of Trustees, Martha Davis, has graciously donated an assortment of old Eta Sigma Phi t-shirts, many of which are from past annual conventions. As Advisor to the Zeta Beta chapter at Temple University, Professor Davis is well known for her enthusiastic involvement in our annual conventions, as reflected in the plethora of shirts.
Shirts range from the 74th annual convention in 2002, hosted by the Zeta Gamma chapter of San Diego State University, to the 83rd annual convention in 2011, held at the University of Texas by the Gamma Sigma chapter. On one shirt from the 76th annual convention in Loyola University, New Orleans, the Eta Sigma Phi owl looks ready to celebrate Mardi Gras decked out in a blue masquerade mask, bead necklaces, and a jester hat. Another shirt, from Professor Davis’s own chapter at Temple University, cracks the witty pun “seek my TEMPLE at philaDELPHIa.” However, the shirt that I personally think wins the creativity award goes to an all black shirt, which reads “etasigmaphia” on the front, and sports a photo of a mafia boss, gun cocked and loaded, with the words “the only good language is a dead language” on the back. Underneath this photo is the line “ne non tamen omnia Crete Monstra ferat,” from Ovid’s “Metamorphosis.” We thank Professor Davis for sharing these shirts and taking us back through the years of Eta Sigma Phi.

Pictures of these shirts are modeled by the stunning members of the Beta Psi chapter at Rhodes College. (Sadly, professional models Gigi Hadid and Derek Zoolander were already booked).
