Eta Sigma Phi Privacy Policy

This privacy policy has been compiled to better serve those who are concerned with how their ‘Personally Identifiable Information’ (PII) is being used online. PII, as described in US privacy law and information security, is information that can be used on its own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single person, or to identify an individual in context. Please read our privacy policy carefully to get a clear understanding of how we collect, use, protect or otherwise handle your Personally Identifiable Information in accordance with our website.

What personal information do we collect from the people that visit our blog or website?

When ordering or registering on our site, as appropriate, you may be asked to enter your name, email address, mailing address, or telephone number.  Note that we do not collect financial information; all financial transactions are conducted through PayPal.  We collect only the names and academic institutions of new members; correspondence about membership is conducted through chapter advisors.  No automated e-mails are sent from the site as a result of membership or purchase of product.  Individuals may register to receive notices from the site when new information is posted.

When do we collect information?

We collect information from you when you register on our site, place an order, fill out a form or enter information on our site.  This information is deleted from our database generally after one year, with the exception of membership records.  We keep these for five years, as questions sometimes arise about membership status.

How do we use your information?

We may use the information we collect from you when you register, make a purchase, sign up for our newsletter, submit a paper for possible presentation, or use certain other site features in the following ways:

  • To quickly process your transactions.
  • To contact you regarding your order.

How do we protect your information?

Your personal information is contained behind secured networks and is only accessible by a limited number of persons who have special access rights to such systems and are required to keep the information confidential.

We implement a variety of security measures when a user places an order enters, submits, or accesses their information to maintain the safety of your personal information.

All financial transactions are processed through a gateway provider and are not stored or processed on our servers.

Do we use ‘cookies’ or other means of tracking?

We do not use cookies for tracking purposes, nor do we track your movements on our site in any way.  We have neither the skills nor the technology nor the inclination to do so.  Such techniques were not in the spirit of the age of Trajan nor of Eta Sigma Phi.  It’s also important to note that we do not allow third-party behavioral tracking.

Third-party disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your Personally Identifiable Information. We may release information when its release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others’ rights, property or safety.

Third-party links

We do not offer third-party products or services on our website but links to sponsors and other appropriate organizations of classical studies are maintained.

How do I unsubscribe from receiving future emails?

As noted above, you will only receive automated messages from us if you register for notices from the site.  Follow the instructions at the bottom of each email and we will promptly remove you from ALL correspondence.
